Why Hanoians Choose the Metro: Insights from Metro Users
It's been a transformative period in Hanoi since the introduction of the city's first metro system. The bustling Vietnamese capital, accustomed to motorbike commutes, is experiencing a shift in lifestyle. To unravel the motivations and perceptions of metro users in Hanoi, we conducted a quantitative research study.
Frequent metro users
Our findings paint a picture of significant reliance on the metro for daily transportation needs. Around 50% of respondents utilize the metro at least once a day. Primarily, the metro serves as a pivotal mode of transport for commuting to work or school, while also facilitating connections and leisure activities.

Convenience and safety avoiding the traffic jam
They used to rely on motorbikes before metro service started. So what made them start using metro over motobike? The top three motivations cited for choosing the metro over other modes are avoiding traffic congestion (90%), convenience (72%), and safety concerns (69%).

Users praise the metro for its affordability, cleanliness, and freedom from traffic congestion. We hear the comments from the representative such as "Traveling by metro is cheap, cool, and clean, with no traffic jams."
The consensus among users is that the metro offers swift above-ground travel, eliminating the fatigue of traffic congestion.
How do they come to the stations and go to destinations
The metro users have to commute themselves to the station, then to the destinations. How do they take care of these transportations from / to the stations. The majorities of them walk from / to the stations, while some use motorbike including the ride hauling such as Grab. The metro users are the ones who only need to walk a few hundred meters from / to the stations and walking is not going to be huge issues for them. Also the service like Grab help them to ease their commuting.

Good satisfaction for comfort, speed and safety
Users express high satisfaction with various aspects of the metro, including affordability, comfort, speed, punctuality, service, and safety. However, the parking facilities require enhancement, especially considering that 37% of users still commute to the metro by motorbike.

Metro has changed the lifestyles of some who particularly have their residence or school / office near the closest metro stations. Metro will start their operation in HCM in 2024 and we would see the lifestyle change resulting from the new commuting style soon.

Climate change-driven heatwaves threaten millions
Extreme record-breaking heat leads to severe crises across the world.
Already in 2024, from Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria in the West; to Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, China, and the Philippines in the East; large regions of Asia are experiencing temperatures well above 40°C (104°F) for days on end.
The heatwave has been particularly difficult for people living in refugee camps and informal housing, as well as for unhoused people and outdoor workers.
Using the Heat Index Calculator, at that temperature and a relative humidity of 50%, residents see a heat index of 55°C (131°F) - a temperature level humans cannot long survive:

In February, the southern coastal zone of West Africa also experienced abnormal early-season heat. A combination of high temperatures and humid air resulted in average heat index values of about 50°C (122°F) - the danger level, associated with a high risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
Locally, temperatures entered the extreme danger level associated with high risk of heat stroke, with values up to 60°C (140°F):

Even here at Ad Astra's HQ in Kansas, last summer we saw several days with high temperatures of 102°F (39°C) at 57% humidity, resulting in a heat index of 133°F (56°C):

Of course, the major difference in survivability in Kansas versus some of the places suffering extreme heat right now is that air-conditioning abounds here. Those who live somewhere that faces extreme heat but can escape it indoors are a lot more likely to survive, but a person who lives somewhere without such life-saving gear faces not just discomfort, but heat stroke and even death.
This includes unhoused and poor people here in the wealthier parts of the world, who often do not have access to indoor refuge from the heat.
About 15% of US residents live below the poverty line. Many low-wage earners work outside in construction or landscaping, exposed to the ravages of heat. Many do not own an air conditioner, and those who do might need to budget their body's recovery from heat against cost to purchase and run cooling equipment. Because heat stress is cumulative, when they go to work the next day, they’re more likely to suffer from heat illness.
Bad as that is, for those living on the street, heatwaves are merciless killers. Around the country, heat contributes to some 1,500 deaths annually, and advocates estimate about half of those people are homeless. In general, unhoused people are 200 times more likely to die from heat-related causes than sheltered individuals.
For example, in 2022, a record 425 people died from heat in the greater Phoenix metro area. Of the 320 deaths for which the victim’s living situation is known, more than half (178) were homeless. In 2023, Texans experienced the hottest summer since 2011, with an average temperature of 85.3°F (30°C) degrees between June and the end of August. Some cities in Texas experienced more than 40 days of 100°F (38°C) or higher weather. This extreme heat led to 334 heat-related deaths, the highest number in Texas history and twice as many as in 2011.
The Pacific Northwest of Canada and the USA suffered an extreme heat event in June, 2021, during which 619 people died. Many locations broke all-time temperature records by more than 5°C, with a new record-high temperature of 49.6°C (121°F). This is a region ill-suited to such weather, and despite having relatively high wealth compared to much of the world, many homes and businesses there do not have air-conditioning due to a history of much lower temperatures.
Heatwaves are arguably the deadliest type of extreme weather event because of their wide impact. While heatwave death tolls are often underreported, hundreds of deaths from the February heatwave were reported in the affected countries, including Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
Extreme heat also has a powerful impact on agriculture, causing crop damage and reduced yields. It also impacts education, with holidays having to be extended and schools closing, affecting millions of students - in Delhi, India, schools shut early this week for summer when temperatures soared to 47°C (117°F) at dangerous humidity levels:

At 70°C (157°F !), humans simply cannot function and face imminent death, especially when humidity is high. This is the notion of "heat index," a derivative of "wet-bulb temperature."
Though now mostly calculated using heat and humidity readings, wet-bulb temperature was originally measured by putting a wet cloth over a thermometer and exposing it to the air.
This allowed it to measure how quickly the water evaporated off the cloth, representing sweat evaporating off skin.
The theorized human survival limit has long been 35°C (95°F) wet-bulb temperature, based on 35°C dry heat at 100% humidity - or 46°C (115°F) at 50% humidity. To test this limit, researchers at Pennsylvania State University measured the core temperatures of young, healthy people inside a heat chamber.
They found that participants reached their "critical environmental limit" - when their body could not stop the core temperature from continuing to rise – at 30.6°C wet bulb temperature, well below what was previously theorized. That web-bulb temperature parallels a 47°C (117°F) heat index.
The team estimates that it takes between 5-7 hours before such conditions reach "really, really dangerous core temperatures."
youtube
On March 5, 2024, Hong Kong saw temperatures of 27°C (80°F) with 100% humidity, which results in a heat index of 32.2°C (90°F) - seemingly not so bad until considering it's higher than the critical wet-bulb temperature. Also, if you watch the video, imagine the long-term effects of water accumulating in residences, such as dangerous mold.
We are witnessing the effects of climate change right now, all around the world, and rising temperatures are just the most-obvious (what we used to call "global warming"). Many, many other side-effects of climate change are beginning to plague us or headed our way soon, and will affect us all.
Unfortunately, those most affected - and those being hit the hardest right now - are people most vulnerable to heatwaves. With climate crises increasing in both intensity and frequency, and poverty at dangerous levels, we face a rapidly rising, worldwide crisis.
We must recognize the climate crisis as an international emergency and treat it as such. So much time, creative energy, resources, and life is wasted in war and the pursuit of profit or power - consider how much good could come from re-allocating those resources to ensuring a future for Earthlings, instead.
(Expect to see a "Science into Fiction" workshop on climate change coming soon - SF writers have a particular responsibility to address such important topics of change and global consequence.)

tell me about your favorite blorbo? like ramble tf away about it, let the hyperfixation take over, i'm so fuckin ready to know everything about them xD
okay I was gonna talk about aventurine but @chevaliermalfets also said I had permission to talk about Adler so.
Russell Adler Propaganda Hour

Okay so first I have to explain Call of Duty Black Ops.
Call of Duty is a franchise but within that franchise there are 3 studios all working on separate games with their own lore. Black Ops, or Blops, is a "universe" within call of duty and it's pretty much the only thing the Treyarch studio works on. (It's kind of connected to the other universes now, I DON'T have the time to get into that so just forget it. Like Dumbledore's sexuality, it is not relevant to Adler's journey.) Black Ops spans 80 years and the lore got Convoluted but they refocusd it again with the last 2 games like: okay. Blops is about top secret CIA operations during the second half of the 20th century.
Black Ops Cold War
The fifth blops came has a simple introductory plot. "It's 1981, you're CIA agents, there's a Bad Russian (Perseus) who wants to do things with Nukes. Standard cold war aesthetics shit. Go get the bad russian. Here's a team led by your NEW BEST FRIEND Adler." You mostly play as Bell. Adler is Bell's Best Friend they fought in vietnam together Adler always wants Bell on his team they're besties. Also, yes, this is the call of duty where you choose your pronouns and Reagan respects them. Much like Reagan I will be using they/them for Bell because I'm not a coward.
So yeah this plot is simple. Adler and you have been chasing the Bad Russian for years. You do various chaotic shit during this campaign. (Sneaking into East Berlin through the underground metro. Breaking into THE FUCKING KGB HQ AND HAVING AN OPEN FIREFIGHT IN ITS VAULT? ADLER? WHAT THE FUCK?) But throughout the game you get little hints something Isn't Right with Bell. They forget things, their past isn't as clear as the other characters, the CIA handler overseeing your op, Hudson, oesn't Trust them and often he and Adler argue about bringing Bell along.
And then :) A mission goes Very Wrong, one of 2 characters die and Bell gets Fucked Up. Adler basically drags you back to the safehouse and the surviving team members start putting you on a gurney. Hudson starts yelling at Adler to stop wasting time, that Bell is no use to them anymore, and the team ignore you. You're like "aww, Adler cares about Bell so much he's gonna waste time to help the- Adler why are you pointing that needle at Bell's eye... OH MY FUCKING GOD!!"
And then you find out that up until like a month ago Bell was working FOR PERSEUS. And then a jealous associate turned on Bell - and you WATCHED THIS HAPPEN from the POV of Adler's team. Bell is a nameless grunt that got shot in a car in the first mission. Adler and the team found Bell, took them back to the CIA, and when Bell didn't break under torture, they BRAINWASHED BELL with MKUltra shit to believe they and Adler were best friends so they'd willingly give him information.
They basically erased Bell's fucking psyche and replaced their memories with implanted memories from Adler's time in Vietnam. BELL IS NAMED AFTER THE BELL ADLER USED TO CONDITION THEM TO RESPOND POSITIVELY TO HIM. BELL HAS BEEN BRAINWASHED TO COMPLY AND OBEY WHENEVER ADLER SAYS "WE HAVE A JOB TO DO." THAT'S WHY ADLER TOOK YOU EVERYWHERE. THE BRAINWASHING IS CENTERED AROUND ADLER. HE CONTROLS BELL.
And you find this out as Adler is guiding you through a fucked up mindscape based on one of his Vietnam missions. He's trying to get you to open a red door - a kind of visual metaphor for the block you've had in your mind protecting the last SLIVER of free will and information you've managed to hold back from him. And as Adler gets angrier and pumps you full of more and more drugs the dreamscape starts getting trippier. At one point he's like "ENOUGH FUCKING AROUND!" and the visuals crumble around Bell and they get flung back to where Adler wants them to be. At one point Bell starts remembering the lab where this happened and Adler just goes "-exasperated sigh- Why is Bell in the lab? I don't want the lab, I want the bunker."
And then Bell wakes up. And let me tell you it's genuinely extremely effective going from Adler being 'protective' of you the whole game to Adler having a hand around your throat cursing you out like you're his enemy. Because you are. After Some Arguing Adler is like "okay, tell me where Perseus is." and YOU can choose to either lie or tell the truth. If you lie Europe gets nuked, but you get to stab Adler in the heart and kill everyone else who did this to you and reunite with Perseus who is immediately Very Concerned about you and Very Proud of you for managing to survive this ordeal.
If you tell the truth (the canonical ending) you get a long cutscene where Adler monologues about "A Few Good Men Making Bad Decisions To Protect The Free World" basically the motto of the US Military's imperialism. And then you and the team stop Perseus and save the world ... and then in the credits, Adler takes Bell up a hill and says "this little thing between you and me wasn't personal" ... and he draws to shoot you and Bell draws like a milisecond after bc after all the programming Bell can read Adler just as well as Adler can read them they're supposed to be bffs after all.
It cuts to black like the fucking sorpanos but the implication is that Adler *KILLS* Bell. Because they've outlived their usefulness. If you choose The Right Thing, Adler KILLS you presumably on CIA orders bc Adler only cares about The Mission.
And that's just COLD WAR!!!!!!!!!!

(Adler pic for making it this far)
Black Ops 6
10 years later during Operation Desert Storm. This game isn't even ABOUT Ader, except it is bc he steals every scene he's in. Case in point, he enters the campaign by striding out from behind a car, coming out of the dust like a demon, and shooting a friendly, unarmed man in the head with no explanation, justification, or apology, while everyone screams. One character literally says "Adler!" but not like they're calling out to him, like the way you might call out a warning like "gunship!" "tank!"
(And then they wrestle with him and he's out of breath and panting and on his knees w/ a gun to his head heehee hoohoo I'm normal I'm normal.)
Anyway Adler has been on the run for a while because he's suspected of being a mole who fucked up a crucial CIA operation. He claims he's being framed, and the CIA are compromised. He gets thrown in a CIA black site and once you investigate and find out he's probably telling the truth you have to put a team together to uncover The Truth and to break him out.
And THEN you have to deal with his chaos for the rest of the campaign the highlights of which include: shooting an unarmed man and going "whaaaat? :( he was going for his gun" when called out, trying to throw a confessing, surrendered man into a jet plane engine, and just carrying CIA MKultra torture drugs around in his bag and pulling them out when necessary like they're chapsticks. Everything Adler does is so fucking funny in how cartoonishly evil it is he is a DELIGHT. This is Adler NOT pretending to be a decent guy like he was with Bell.
(Also you can indirectly ask him about Bell and he shuts that shit down immediately. >:) That's theirs. That's his and Bell's and nobody else will understand their fucked up hannibal lecter will graham antics.)
I don't even know how to summarise the plot except at one point a character is reliving her worst trauma and she claims Adler killed her parents in front of her when she was a child and they were CIA agents and Adler was ordered by the CIA to kill their own, and I started LAUGHING AND CLAPPING LIKE A SEAL it hit like meth. The game claims this did NOT happen and she has been misled but I refuse to accept that. It happened. Adler killed this women's parents in cold blood and then mentored her in the CIA. I hope he killed her pet hamster too. I hope he ate her last lunchable from the fridge and stole money from her piggy bank.
Yes, he is STILL SUPPOSED TO BE A PROTAGONIST. And you have to understand how incredible that is. Call of Duty does NOT let its characters be Proper Bastards. Call of Duty characters always need to turn to the camera and say "but of course, as a us military soldier, I would never commit a war crime because we are the most ethical military in the world."
But Adler is a *protagonist* and he not only commits war crimes, when other characters judge him for it he's like "uh we work for the CIA dipshit the blanket war crimes permission came free with our badge bc WE get to decide when a war crime is necessary! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!"
Call of Duty doing this is like a dog learning to ride a bike. That's not an expectation I ever had for the dog, nor is it something I thought he could do. Frankly, I don't know what this dog riding a bike MEANS in the grand scheme of things. But goddamn that sure is a dog riding a bike and I want to see more of it.

Questions You Might Have
What's with the facial scar?
Adler refuses to tell the real story like any good Bond Villain he just HAS a cool scar covering half his face.
Why does he dress like that?
BC it's a period piece in the sexy Spies And Soviets era and he's watched too many movies. I hope he went to see Top Gun
Why is he like this?
>:) Because he's a beast created by the US Military's total lack of oversight and self-legitimising discourse that means anything is true and permitted as long as they say it is.
Why is he so funny?
Bc he's a call of duty character who is aware they are in call of duty and therefore any attempt to minimise their evil is wasted breath and pointless effort. This is like the reverse of parody. This is face-value "yes we really mean this" taken to such a ridiculous extreme it BECOMES Parody. This is like the reverse of why Senator Armstrong saying "Make America Great Again" 4 years before Trump Presidency happened hits like crack.
How did call of duty make this?
I have no fucking idea dude I think someone from metal gear snuck into the building.
Wait didn't you tag something as AdlerBell but they-
I subscribe to the NBC Hannibal school of "sometimes ruining someone's life can be intensely romance coded if you two are the only two people alive who can understand what went on between you." I think Bell should eat him.
Are you okay?
Absolutely not. I think Adler has MKUltra'd me.

WREAK HAVOC ON YOUR OWN MYTHOLOGY
a manifesto of sorts. by Kiernan Norman.
SAY EVERYTHING YOU’RE NOT SUPOSSED TO SAY.
Bite down. Spill.
Dredge the truth up from your ribs.
If it makes someone uncomfortable,
you’re getting somewhere.
If it makes you flinch, you’re close.
If it makes you ache, press harder.
LOVE LIKE YOU’RE BURNING IN REAL TIME.
Love with your hands open,
a pocketful of matches,
no fear of third-degree consequences.
Let it ruin you. Let it rewire you.
Let it make you unbearable.
If it doesn’t change the shape of your mouth,
if it doesn’t show up in your dreams,
it wasn’t love—
just a joke that went on too long.
YOUR SUFFERING IS NOT CURRENCY
What you create from it is.
Blueprint grief.
Canonize longing.
Turn your past into poetry
and then charge admission.
TIME IS NOT REAL, BUT YOUR BONES DISAGREE.
You will feel the weight of years
in your joints.
You will remember things in your muscles
before your mind catches up.
A decade will pass,
and your skin will still tingle
at the memory of hands
that have long since vanished.
You are a clock made of flesh,
and time leaves fingerprints.
IF YOU MUST GO, LEAVE LIKE A COMET.
No quiet exits.
No slipping away unnoticed.
Let them watch as you burn through the sky.
Let them stare until their eyes ache.
Let them wish they had followed you.
Let them wake up years later
with your name still in their mouth.
YOUR SOUL HAS A B-SIDE. PLAY IT LOUD.
The version of you that winks at the moon?
Real.
The one who writes letters
just to bury them under snow?
Real.
The one who flew to Vietnam
to live with a girl she met on 2010s Tumblr?
Also real.
You are a thousand lives,
and all of them are real.
GOD LIVES IN BATHROOM STALLS AND BUS STATIONS.
You will not find divinity in neat places.
You will find it in the drunk girl in the club bathroom,
telling you you’re beautiful.
In the way strangers help each other
at baggage claim.
In the way someone leans in, just slightly,
when they laugh.
Holiness is the street musician
playing for shadows.
Start praying to that.
THE ONES WHO LEAVE NEVER GET TO KNOW HOW THE STORY ENDS.
Let them wonder.
Let them rot in their own unknowing.
Let them wake up years later
with your name still in their mouth.
Let them carry it
like a stone in their stomach.
THE DEAD STILL HEAR YOU. SPEAK ACCORDINGLY.
Your ancestors are listening.
Your ghosts are listening.
The version of you
who didn’t make it past that worst night—
she is listening.
Speak like you owe them something.
Because you do.
YOU ARE NOT A SUNDAY MORNING.
You are a Friday night
with blood in your mouth.
You are the reckoning,
the consequence,
the aftermath,
the mess they wake up to
and the ghost they dream about.
EVERY SETTING HAS A VERSION OF YOU STILL WALKING AROUND IN IT.
You are still twenty-four,
draping yourself around campus,
all short skirts and Adderall-eyes,
like you’re everybody’s daydream.
Still eighteen,
getting on the D.C. Metro with a book,
riding up and down the red line
just to pass the evening.
Still thirty-three,
kissing a face you’d been curious to taste
for ten years.
Still eleven,
jumping on the trampoline with your backpack,
waiting for the bus to come.
You are haunting yourself across time zones.
Be kind to the versions of you
who don’t know how the story ends yet.
EVERY SCAR ON YOUR BODY IS A SENTENCE IN A LANGUAGE YOU’RE STILL LEARNING.
Your skin is an unfinished poem.
Your bones are a form of punctuation.
Some wounds never fully close—
they just change their wording.
YOU HAVE LEFT YOURSELF IN PLACES YOU WILL NEVER RETURN TO.
There is a version of you
still laughing at that one house party
where you lost your heels
but found a switchblade.
There is a version of you
still running down E 15th Street at 3 AM,
blinding rain, howling.
You are scattered across time
like loose change.
Do not try to gather yourself back up.
You were meant to be infinite.
IF YOU’RE GOING TO GO DOWN, GO DOWN IN FLAMES.
If they break your heart,
write them into legend.
If they leave you,
make sure they haunt themselves.
If you cry,
let it be in a ball gown,
mascara running down your face
like a Renaissance painting.
Do not suffer quietly.
Wreak havoc on your own mythology.
YOU ARE NOT A HALF-HEARTED THING.
Love like you’re starting a fire
in a dry field.
Love like it will be written about.
Love like you’re trying to leave a scar in history.
Slip between history’s fingers
like a well-kept secret.
Or better—
be the kind of catastrophe
they build monuments for.
PARTS OF YOU Will DIE IN BEDROOMS WHERE YOU WERE LEFT ON READ.
Parts of you will die
in cities that still call your name.
Parts of you will die
in the arms of people
who kissed you like they meant it
and lied.
And yet—
Their mother still asks about you.
You still feel their breath in your hair.
The love stayed—only they left.
YOU ARE A FAITH. ACT ACCORDINGLY.
Worship your own survival.
Build altars to the times
you almost didn’t make it.
Pray at the church of your own spine.
There is no church holier
than the space you take up.
Your body is a relic.
Your mind is a temple.
Your lungs are a sanctuary.
IF YOU MUST GO MISSING, MAKE IT A SPECTACLE.
Disappear into the night
wearing red lipstick and borrowed jewelry.
Slip through the cracks
like a motel vacancy sign at dawn—
Flickering.
Fading.
Gone.
Make them wonder if they imagined you.
Make them see your silhouette
in places you’ve never been.
Make them ask strangers,
“Did you see her?
Did she leave a note?”
IF YOU MUST RETURN, BURN THE BRIDGE BEHIND YOU.
The past is a country
where you do not have citizenship.
Stop applying for visas.
Stop sending postcards.
If you return,
take only your bones,
leave only an echo.
EVERYTHING YOU LOVE WILL HAUNT YOU. LOVE IT ANYWAY.
Your favorite books will betray you
by meaning different things as you age.
The songs you once danced to
will one day leave you breathless with grief.
Every person who ever touched your skin
left fingerprints under your ribs.
This is the price of having a body.
This is the price of believing in beauty.
Keep paying it.
IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL ALIVE, IT WAS NEVER A WASTE OF TIME.

From the Jewish Voice for Peace Boulder/Denver Chapter newsletter:
"For over six months, tens of thousands of Jews, and countless other people of conscience, have fought to end the Israeli government's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
As our movement continues to grow, student antiwar protesters set up an encampment at the Auraria Campus, home to the University of Colorado Denver, Metro State University, and Community College of Denver. Denver Students for a Democratic Society initiated the encampment Thursday, and the protest quickly gained momentum.
The Denver/Boulder chapter of JVP showed strong support, standing in unwavering solidarity with the students and activists at Tivoli Quad on the Auraria Campus, beginning Thursday night and continuing through the weekend.

Before long, students and faculty from diverse backgrounds were participating. There was significant support from the wider Denver community, demonstrating broad solidarity with our demands, including for the Biden administration to end its support for Israeli genocide.
On Friday, a day later, the Denver Police Department arrested more than 40 peaceful protesters defending the encampment. Despite this, students quickly reestablished the encampment and continued their protest.
That evening, JVP Denver/Boulder led a Shabbat service at the encampment following Jummah prayer.
Despite rain, snow and sleet, the students remained at the encampment, organizing further speakers and rallies on Saturday.
These events were attended by local political leaders, university professors, and representatives from community groups, including JVP.
Dr. Angela Davis, renowned activist and scholar, visited the encampment. Her inspiring presence lent significant historical and moral weight to the students' efforts.

Dr. Davis gave a moving speech linking the encampment to a long history of civil rights and student activism, describing it as a pivotal moment in contemporary social movements and something she hadn’t seen since the student movements to end the Vietnam War.
Now, the encampment continues, with students and supporters remaining until all their demands are met."

Which flower is your favorite? Peonies! It's been my favorite for a while and I don't think it'd still change as I'm not much into plants and flowers to begin with.
Have you ever picked wild flowers? No. The only thing I've ever plucked out are weeds LOL at home.
Have you ever walked through a forest? Hmm, I dunno - does hiking a forest-y mountain count? I've climbed two mountains, both of which get super deep in the forest.
Do you enjoy walking through nature parks? I wish I can answer this but we don't even have any here. I feel like I would enjoy them, but probably just in moderation - being in nature isn't really my top favorite activity.
What was the last wild animal you saw? Can't even remember...I live in the city, so all I see are birds, dogs, and cats.
Have you ever seen a mountain in person? Yes, many of them and many times.
Do you prefer jam or butter on your biscuits? Butter. I don't like fruits so I've never sought out jam.
Have you ever explored somewhere abandoned? I probably have but nothing comes to mind. It's definitely not a hobby of mine, though.
Where is the last place you went to as a tourist? Vietnam. I was in Da Nang before we flew back to Manila - the literal last spot I visited before we headed to the airport was this quaint little cafe just right outside our Airbnb. It was al fresco, there were lots of trees with their branches swaying ever so gently, I was surrounded by a mix of locals and fellow tourists who were also out on their own, and everything just...felt nice. It was the perfect peaceful vibe to wrap up a really fulfilling trip.
What country do you most want to travel to? I'd love to go back to South Korea but this time to explore Seoul, because I was in Jeju the first time.
Do you have any plants in your home? We do, but it's my mom who owns and maintains them.
Do you have a garden? Just a very small one in front of our house.
Do you prefer to read in bed or in a chair? Chair. I'd fall asleep if I read in bed, lol.
What is the last book you read? It's a book on Philippine artifacts. I haven't touched it since September-ish, but I plan on coming back to it once we have our holiday shutdown which starts this weekend.
Do you prefer tea or coffee? Coffee.
How do you take your tea or coffee? My favorite coffees are caramel macchiato and Spanish latte – so, really, I like my drinks on the sweet side. Whole milk takes my tummy through hell and back so I like to sub it with either oat or almond milk.
Do you have any pets? If yes, what are their names? If no, do you want any pets? I have three and they are my world :) Their names are Cooper, Agi, and Max. We also previously had Kimi, Arlee, and Miki.
In the last 7 days, my sister and I have also been looking out for and feeding a pregnant stray that's been roaming the neighborhood - we call her Mama Cat. She started bringing another cat by like Day 3 lol so he can eat too, and we're suspecting he's the dad so we've called him Dada Cat haha.
Have you ever kept a physical, hand-written journal? I have, but I was always terrible at maintaining them.
Have you ever caught a butterfly in your hands? Nope.
What style house do you want to own? Modern and minimalist. I'd be perfectly happy with a house that looks like this:
Do you enjoy long car rides or long walks? Either is pleasant as long as the scenery and vibe is pleasant. I wish I could walk more but I live in the most walk-unfriendly country ever.
What is in the drawer nearest you? Just my home clothes and some knickknacks I hoard in case I need them one of these days.
Would you rather swim in a lake, a river, or the ocean? I'd like to try swimming in a lake - it seems so peaceful.
Are there any interesting landmarks where you live? Nah it's pretty uneventful here and Metro Manila as a whole. Tourists are much better off in the provinces where we'd have so much more to offer, food- culture- and destination-wise.
What is the last thing you took a picture of that wasn’t yourself? The dogs.
Would you rather play in the snow or the rain? Snow.
What is the last thing you cooked? I can't cook, heh.
What is your favorite fruit and vegetable? For fruits I like avocado...and tbh just avocado; I hate fruits. Veggies - I like broccoli, eggplant, asparagus, and green beans.
Do you like to drink or snack on anything while you study or read? Nooooooo I avoid eating when I work, lol. I tend to enjoy the food so much that it ends up distracting me, and I'll take more bites than do the work that I need to be doing.
What is the last piece of jewelry that you wore? Not sure. Maybe a necklace? I don't usually wear jewelry.
Have you ever pressed flowers or leaves into a book? I don't think so, no.
What do you usually order at a cafe, if anything? Spanish latte is consistently in menus so that's my safest bet.
Do you prefer studying at home, at school, or somewhere else? I usually work at home but for a change of scenery I'll sometimes go to a coffee shop.
Have you ever found a four-leaf clover? I don't think I'd ever find one here.
Are you more of a day or night person? Night.
If you could live in a fictional world, which would it be? San Junipero.
What are three things that you always carry with you when you leave home? Phone, at least 1 ID, a hair tie. Very unique!
What did you do the last time you hung out with your best friend? We went to the UP bonfire because we won the championships at men's basketball!!!!!!!!!! :D It's only the fourth time it's happened since 1940 so DUH we made sure not to miss out. Such a sweet bonus that Eraserheads happened to have a surprise performance, too. They hadn't performed on campus since 1999 so it was extra special...I never thought I'd see them in my lifetime so I was definitely on cloud nine then.
Which type of muffin is your favorite? Chocolate.
What color is the sky right now where you are? Very dark blue.
Have you ever taken an art class? Not voluntarily.
When is the last time you tried a food completely new to you, and what was it? This fancy ass overpriced siomai at this fancy ass restaurant where I met up with Leah. 500 pesos for four pieces of dumplings I could have gotten LITERALLY 20x cheaper at some sidewalk food stall hah. But I wasn't paying so I didn't feel too violated lmao
Do you believe there is an answer for everything? In theory, yes. We're not always guaranteed the answers we're looking for, though.
Are there any smells, tastes, or sounds that you associate with childhood? There's this sweet nutty scent that'd always be at my mom's bank whenever she'd take me there as a kid. It was the only place I smelled that smell so it stands out quite strongly in my memories.
Would you rather live in a coastal town or a town closer to the forest? Coastal town. How lovely would that be?
What sounds, smells, and tastes do you associate with your favorite season? I don't have a favorite season.
When is the last time you spent all day in bed? On my literal bed, maybe 4 years ago when I was still rotting away from my breakup? I do spend time on the couch quite often though.
When is the last time you went for a walk? Wednesday.
What do you like to put on your toast? Scrambled eggs.
Would you rather watch the clouds or look at the stars? Either sounds lovely, but I like the stars just a little bit more.
What smells are your favorite? Seafood is definitely up there.
What is your favorite shade of blue? Indigo.
Do you like to make to-do lists? Definitely, especially at work. My daily to-do lists are my lifeline.
Do you prefer iced tea or hot tea? Iced coffee or hot coffee? Iced for both.
What is your ethnic background? Filipino.
What is your favorite animal on the merry-go-round? Idk I've only seen horses on them? Haha.
What can you hear around you right now? Just the aircon running and I also have an old Jungkook live playing in the background.
What was in your last sandwich and what bread did you use? It was uhhhhh just your good ol Zinger from KFC hahaha.
Have you ever been camping? Nope.
What are you currently listening to? JK :)

I run a shit post dnd game. The players and I refer to it by one of two names. Weednd or The Brewicide Squad. The players and I get inebriated before and during each sessions.
This is the information I provided to the players when we were planning on starting the game. The hook so to speak. There are also the 4 unique feats you can choose depending on where you are from.
Brethea is a land of wonders and holds many a great deal of things. The land is ruled over by 4 major factions
The Weed Wizards-
One more Rip- once per long sesh user pulls out a spell rolled joint and can cast any first level spell
The Miller High Mages-
Feat: Gods Drunkest Driver- once per long sesh the user down a teener and spawn a set of car keys. The car keys are a magical item when used that summons a magical car that will take you where you need to go,
The Pack Priests of Stanktopia-
Herbal Remedies- one per long user can heal the party 1d8 as they share a medicinal blunt. The healing power increases by 1d8 at level 6, 10, 14, 18
The Wocky Warlocks-
Double Cup Alchemy- one per long sesh the player may roll a d20 in order to generate a double cup potion.
Brethea a land of rich and deep lore, built upon the ashes of many a sesh amongst the leaders of the four groups.
One day a black spot opened in between the four kingdoms and since then evil has been plaguing the land, trying to claim the holy relics of the kingdoms to resurrect an evil demon.
The four great rulers of the nation, Franko Skunkberry of Stanktopia, Yung King of Wocky, Flooberus Bobsnarl Jr. of the Miller lands, and Quincavius Diesalbrau of the wizards have come to an agreement that shall recruit aspiring heroes of their nation and pair them in teams of adventurers to stop the forces of evil. You are a team of those heroes. Your goal is to get as much information you can on the upcoming evil and potentially put a stop to it!
Short sesh, or long sesh instead of short or long rest.

I've worked with EFF for 22 years now and I have always been - and remain - a major donor, because I've seen firsthand how effective, responsible and brilliant this organization is. Please join me in helping EFF continue its work!
